While many people we have talked with are still reluctant to sit in a movie theatre, we have returned to the Warwick Showcase and the Avon for matinees, where there have only even a handful of patrons sitting, as people always have in movie theatres, at great distance from each other.

Rustic Drive-In has been drawing weekend crowds and plans to stay open until the first snow falls.

Unfortunately, there has been slim pickings at the Showcase, unless you are a fan of horror flicks or old movies.

Showcase has added a faith-based film, “Pray.” It tells the story of Patrick Peyton, an Irish immigrant who came to America in 1928 and slowly attracted a large following. He is remembered for his saying, “The family that prays together, stays together.”

The Avon has held over “On the Rocks” starring Bill Murray, but not the documentary “Escape From Extinction.” The much acclaimed “Martin Eden” opens Friday.

NETFLIX

“Rebecca” a remake of the 1940 film based on the novel by Daphne Du Moirier, stars Lily James and Armie Hammer, and should hold your interest for a couple of hours. A romantic mystery about a common girl who marries into a wealthy family and is haunted by her husband’s wife’s ghost, it has some good acting and lots of atmosphere.

“My Octopus Teacher,” Craig Foster’s documentary about a South African man’s obsession with an octopus, is a must for anyone who has ever snorkeled or scuba dived and is interested in life beneath the sea. I was mesmerized for an hour and a half.

I am watching season one of the BBC series “Broadchurch,” about a young boy who is murdered in a seacoast village, where just about everybody becomes a suspect. It has me hooked, and I hope it maintains its momentum. Rotten Tomatoes critics and viewers rated it in the 90s.
