By ALEX SPONSELLER The Boys & Girls Club of Warwick will be holding its 42nd annual golf tournament on Monday, Sept. 21 at the Warwick Country Club, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and it hopes to see another strong outing in the community. 

Like most local businesses, the Boys & Girls Club has been grinding through the pandemic and is hoping to raise as much funds as possible to continue to help Warwick’s youth. The 100 spots are full for competitors in the tournament, however, those still interested may contact the Boys & Girls Club to join its waiting list.

Locals are also welcome to buy 50-50 raffle tickets or donate. This year’s raffle baskets will include items such as golf clubs, wine and chocolate boxes. Boxed lunches will also be provided for participants.

“All proceeds, more now than ever, are very much appreciated and will go toward the club. Things will be different, we are limited to 100 players, but the Warwick Country Club is on top of it. We are certainly following all procedures and that is why we are not holding our usual lunch like we normally do, we are not doing the event dinner at night. We are doing everything we can to play and raise money which is very important to our club and to also deliver as much fun as we always do to the wonderful people that are coming to help the club and have a good time,” said Boys & Girls Club Development Director Eleanor Acton.

Although this year had made the Boys & Girls Club adapt to a new setting, Acton and company are thrilled to be able to once again hit the links and raise money for a local cause.

“We’re very relieved that we can have it and we need to raise as much money as we possibly can this year. Like everyone else, we are suffering revenue loss, our expenses are high because of all of the safety precautions that we must take to stop the spread, so this is really an important fundraiser for us. We are very happy that our individuals and our company sponsors are coming out again. The public is certainly welcome to buy raffle tickets or donate. We could really use it this year,” said Acton.

The event will be a shotgun, scramble tournament at the Warwick Country Club which is located at 394 Narragansett Bay Avenue in Warwick. Registration and check in will be from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, with tee off beginning shortly after.
