Gamm seeks video auditions for 2020-21 season

In accordance with public safety guidelines surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, The Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) is now accepting video submissions from eligible performers in consideration of casting for its 36th season.

Call back dates will be announced as soon as public safety guidelines allow. Eligible performers seeking roles in the Gamm’s 2020-21 season may send their audition pieces along with a headshot/resume to auditions@gammtheatre.org by April 13.

EMS and non-Equity performers are encouraged to send headshots/resumes only. In-person auditions for those performers will be announced as soon as public safety guidelines allow. No phone calls, please, as staff members are currently working remotely.

The Gamm is looking to cast roles in the following plays for the 2020-21 Season, which starts performances in September and runs through May. The available roles are: “Bad Jews” by Joshua Harmon, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin Aug. 25, 2020. Runs Sept. 10-Oct. 4, 2020.Daphna Feygenbaum: 22, Liam and Jonah’s cousin. 2/3 body, 1/3 hair. Thick, intense, curly, frizzy, long brown hair.

Liam Haber: 25, Daphna’s cousin. Former Fulbright scholar in Japan. Has as much of a sense of humor as an overdue library book.

Jonah Haber: 21, Liam’s younger brother. Sometime-UVM sophomore. Less brainy than his brother. More brawn. More heart.

Melody: 24, Liam’s girlfriend. Short, stick-straight blonde hair. Which she wears with a barrette. To be extra cute. Mousy. “Travesties” by Tom Stoppard, directed by Fred Sullivan, Jr.

Rehearsals begin September 22, 2020. Runs Oct. 22-Nov. 15, 2020.Henry Carr has been cast.

James Joyce: The brilliant Irish writer.

Tristan Tzara: The infamous Romanian Dadaist.

Vladimir Lenin: The Russian Communist leader in exile.

Cecily: 20’s, Henry’s sister, think Cecily from “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Gwendolyn: 20s, think Gwendolyn from “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Bennett: Carr’s manservant.

Nadya: Wife of Vladimir Lenin. “An Octoroon” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Joe Wilson Jr.

Rehearsals begin Dec. 22, 2020. Runs Jan. 21-Feb. 14, 2021BJJ/George/M’Closky: African American/Black male.

Playwright/Wahnotee/LaFouche: White male.

Assistant/Pete/Paul: Native American, mixed race, or South Asian man.

Zoe: Female. The character is 1/8 black/mixed race but can pass for white.

Dora: White female.

Minnie: African American female or person of color.

Dido: African American female or person of color.

Grace: African American female or person of color. “Richard II” by William Shakespeare, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin Feb. 4, 2021. Runs March 11-April 4, 2021Note: Gamm embraces non-traditional casting and many roles in “Richard II” will be doubled.

King Richard II: Vain, acutely sensitive.

Bolingbroke: Proud, stong. Usurpser of the throne.

John of Gaunt: 70s, a fierce prophetic force.

Duke of York: Political advisor, torn between king and country.

Aumerle: Son of York, ruthless Lord banished by the king.

Queen: Richard’s wife.

Duchess of York: York’s wife.

Duchess of Glocester: Widow to Thomas Duke of Gloucester.

Bushy, Bagot and Greene: Richard’s contemporaries and close friends. “Ironbound” by Maryna Majok, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin April 4, 2021. Runs April 27-May 16, 2021Darja [dar-ya]: Plays 20s to early 40s. She’s the title character.

Tommy: Her boyfriend, a postman and philanderer.

Maks: Her past boyfriend and fellow immigrant, a dreamer and musician.

Vic: African American male, should appear teenaged/early 20s. “It’s A Wonderful Life, A Radio Play” by Joe Landry, directed by TBD

Rehearsals begin Nov. 17, 2020. Runs Dec. 3-Dec. 27, 2020Freddie Filmore: 50s, stentorian.

Jake Laurents: 30-40, plays George Bailey.

Sally Applewhite: 30-40, plays Mary, etc.

Lana Sherwood: 40- 50, plays Ma Bailey etc.

Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood: 50s, plays Clarence. All performers must play multiple characters. Vocal virtuosity is a must.

As with in-person auditions, each performer will be allotted a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of five minutes. We suggest that performers prepare a one- to two-minute monologue of their choice. If you want to be considered for “Richard II,” please prepare a monologue from Shakespeare, preferably in blank verse. Callbacks for individual plays are TBD.

Minimum weekly salary for Equity actors is $583. Minimum weekly salary for Equity stage managers is $699.
