Laramee commits to DIII UMD

Pilgrim’s Ethan Laramee recently committed to playing college football for the Division III UMass Dartmouth Corsairs next fall.

The standout defensive back was a team captain for the Pats over the past two seasons and was a key member of its 2019 Super Bowl run, helping bring home the school’s first championship since 1975.

Laramee was excited to make his decision, and looks forward to getting in shape for next fall.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders, and it’s good to know where I am going so now I can focus on getting in shape for college football. Now I can get to the gym, get on the field and get moving toward next season … especially now that spring sports may be cancelled, if they do then there goes my volleyball season, now I can focus on getting ready for football,” said Laramee.

Laramee was considering a handful of other schools, but was won over by the UMass Dartmouth coaching staff.

“I was looking at Norwich in Vermont, Nichols in Dudley, Mass, Endicott. I remember that UMass Dartmouth came to visit us after my junior year so I put them on my radar. When I visited them (recently), everything kind of stood out,” said Laramee. ”The way they interacted with me, they have a young staff that connects with and really cares about the players. Then talking to the other players during my overnight visit, talking to the coaches, it’s a really good atmosphere over there.”

Laramee will be used as a safety at UMD, and expects to face some stiff competition.

“I’m expecting to play against some grown men. It’s no joke, I spoke with a kid that was a freshman last year that got some reps at safety, and he said there are some grown men out there … this isn’t Division III high school anymore, it’s the next level,” said Laramee.

More than anything, he is excited to extend his football career another four years and play the game that he loves.

“What I’m looking forward to the most is just being able to play the game that I love. At first, I wasn’t sure if I would want to play, but when it came down to it, I just couldn’t let the sport go. I’m not going to the NFL, that’s not what it’s about, it’s about playing the game that I have loved since I was in third grade,” said Laramee, who will also miss the Pilgrim community. “I’m going to miss the brotherhood. All of us on that team, we didn’t just see each other at practice, at games, in school, we were all best friends since middle school. It was a great atmosphere. The coaches too, it was a family.”
