Old Providence launches new podcast

Posted

Old Providence, also known as www.OldPVD.com, announced today that it has launched its first podcast just in time for International Podcast Day on Sept. 30.

The podcast, available now, chronicles the stories of Providence’s past by looking through the eyes of its citizens. The inaugural episode features Roz Rustigian of Rustigian Rugs, a business that has been a part of Providence since 1930. Future guests include Brenda Sullivan of The Gravestone Girls, and Carrie Taylor of The Lippitt House Museum.

“I love this city, just like most of its residents do. I felt compelled to begin this podcast to collect the oral history of Providence, especially for future generations. As a former curator and as a professional historian I’m naturally interested in preserving the past. Providence’s history is long overdue for a more detailed look,” said Maureen Taylor, creator, and curator of Old Providence and the new podcast.

Taylor is known as The Photo Detective, and she has a podcast of the same name which currently garners over 1,200 downloads per week.

Taylor continued: “My hope is that the Old Providence podcast helps us connect with each other. Our stories are what drive us, and combined with our love for this city, I’m excited to see where this takes us.”

The podcast can be downloaded from oldpvd.com, as well as Apple Podcasts.

Do you have a story to share? For more information, please email Maureen Taylor at photodetective@maureentaylor.com.

Old Providence is an online geo-referencing and crowdsourcing collaborative site that encourages users to contribute photos and information about places in Providence. It debuted in 2019 and has several hundred active users, and several thousand images to date.
