“Ingobernable”

is another Spanish-language series with subtitles that combines politics with crime and murder and features a strong woman.

Emilia, the first lady of Mexico, is accused of killing her husband. She goes into hiding with a group of revolutionaries from the ghetto, trying to find out who the real killer is.

She comes up against corrupt politicians, military, drug dealers and businessmen.

Emilia is beaten, betrayed, stalked, tortured and subject to disgrace as she searches for the truth.

Her children are kidnapped. She is deceived by an undercover CIA agent, and through all this she narrowly escapes and redeems herself.

Lots of action, twists and turns in this series.

“Halston”:

Just released is this controversial short series about Halston, the American designer who has led a fascinating life, filled with dozens of ups and downs.

Born in Indiana to an abusive family life, he escapes to New York City in the early ’60s and becomes a famous hat designer after designing for Jackie Kennedy. Hats become out of fashion in the late ’60s and he moves on to dresses, where his early designs flop, putting him in deep debt, only to emerge after the Battle of Versailles, where he beats out the famous French designers, with a lot of help from wealthy businessmen and women.

Liza Minelli is best friend to this gay man, who lives a very active sex life, making this series a big R.

Temperamental, unappreciated, self absorbed, Halston is a complex character living in the fast lane.

“The Killing of Two Lovers”

is a low-budget indie film about a man trying to keep his family together under difficult conditions.

The title and opening scenes are very misleading, as David struggles with his inability to save his marriage.

His wife has thrown him out of the house and made it difficult for him to connect with his four kids. To compound the problem, she has taken on a lover.

All of this takes place in one day as the camera moves closely from one dreary scene to the next.

For whatever reason, the director has included irritating loud clanging noises between scenes.

This one is a real downer with an unrealistic ending.

“Those Who Wish Me Dead” (***):

Angelina Jolie stars as Hannah, is still grieving over her failure to save three boys in a massive forest fire.

She is sent to a fire tower deep in the forest for a summer of quiet reflection.

Meanwhile, an accountant who has uncovered evidence on some really bad guys is fleeing them with his young son (Finn Little). The bad guys kill the father and the son escapes into the woods.

Wouldn’t you know it, he runs into Hannah, who heroically saves him.

But wait. The bad guys find them. They run away, right into a blazing forest fire.

The sheriff is on their trail, along with his pregnant wife. Things get tense. People are hurt and killed.

Hannah takes a major beating, which messes up her big lips, perfect eyeliner and moisturized complexion.

Some survive. Some don’t.

Lots of action, profanity and violence gives it an R rating.
