  • SCAM ALERT UPDATE- the call is coming from 401-266-3707. We’ve called the number, and it goes to voicemail and the scammer identifies himself as “Sargent Matthews.” Sometimes identifying as Kent County Sheriff, other times RI Sheriff, and sometimes Jefferson County Sheriff. They’re also pretending to be firemen. This is a new scam that’s going around. A person(s) is calling victims identifying themselves as a sheriff and telling them that a family member is in big trouble for not showing up for jury duty. These people are trying to scam money. This is not the way that the court would contact you. If you receive a call like this, hang up and report the call to police. Please be advised that the Warwick Police Department will NOT contact you to solicit money. If you suspect any fraudulent activity, please contact the Warwick Police Department.. Thank you

  • It was a wet- but awesome Opening Day at Apponaug Girls Softball. This league means a lot to the Mayor and his family. Both of his daughters grew up playing in the league, the Mayor coached, served on the board and was president from 95-97. Winslow Park is in a different location now but it’s still an incredible league!!

  • A couple of months ago, Mayor Picozzi posted that the city was considering moving the July 4th fireworks from Oakland Beach to Rocky Point for various reasons. The Mayor asked for public input, and he received a lot of it. People on both sides of the issue had some very good points. What the Mayor’s office has decided is that, for at least this year, the fireworks will remain at Oakland Beach. With the fireworks there, people can see them from Buttonwoods, Apponaug, the western shore of Warwick Neck and many other areas around Greenwich and Warwick Cove. Also, many people have already made plans for get togethers that involve viewing the fireworks. So, for this year, the fireworks will stay put and the city will revisit the issue another time.

  • Two public meetings about creating a village for Warwick seniors are being held on April 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tri City Elk Lodge, 1915 W. Shore Rd., Warwick and at 5:30 at the Sawtooth Building, 65 Centerville Rd. Warwick. Villages help older adults stay active, connected, and independent in their own homes and communities as they age through networks of volunteers. The concept is neighbors helping neighbors in a formal, sustainable organization. Older adults can get trusted help when they need it and also stay social, preventing the negative effects of isolation. A local group is working with The Village Common of RI to form a village for older adults in Warwick. On April 30th, there will be two opportunities to learn how a Warwick Village would support older adults and how to become involved. The Village is seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles, including driving to appointments, shopping, providing tech support, minor home repairs and serving on committees. The Village Common of RI is a volunteer-driven, membership based, nonprofit organization with villages across Rhode Island in Barrington, Burrillville, Edgewood, Glocester, Providence and Westerly. Each village has members and the volunteers who assist them, supported by the small administrative staff of The Village Common of RI. People can be both members and volunteers.
