The Pilgrim girls swim team won its season finale over East Providence 54-38 last week at the McDermott Pool.

Emily Diggle won the 500 freestyle while Madeline Hopkins won the 100 back. Kara Lee went on to win the 100 breast as well.

Pilgrim’s relay team of Diggle, Zoe Whitman, Kaitlyn Waring and Emma Spolidoro won the 200 free relay.

The Lady Pats also celebrated their annual Senior Night, honoring three seniors that are set to graduate this coming spring. Those seniors included Whitman, Diggle and Payton Dufresne.

“I’m going to miss them. They’ve been great. I’ve known them all for awhile now so I’m going to miss having them,” said Pilgrim coach Dori LaBella.

Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon was in attendance for the event and awarded each senior a certificate of achievement. Friends and family were also present to cheer on the Pilgrim leaders.

The Pats will now set their sights on this week’s divisional meet then next week’s state championship at Brown University.

LaBella has been proud of the progress that her young club has made throughout the season.

“They’ve been phenomenal, and they’re doing things that they didn’t think that they’d be able to do at this point in the year. Madeline Hopkins has qualified in a few events (for states), and a few others are just a few seconds off of qualifying but have a chance to qualify this weekend. It’s exciting,” said LaBella, who also hopes that the season finale win will provide the team some momentum as it heads into its biggest meet yet.

“It definitely gives them a boost. To see how well they did tonight and seeing how well they’re capable of doing moving forward, it’s good to see. They were excited and were ready to go for Senior Night. It was a great night and it should be a good meet coming up.”
