ASSAULT

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 21, Officer Tyler J. Mobrice and other officers responded to the area of the Taco Bell at 2574 West Shore Road for a report of an assault in progress. Dispatch advised that the suspect had fled the scene in a tan vehicle bearing Rhode Island registration.

Near the intersection of West Shore Road and Long Street, Mobrice observed a tan 2007 Ford Edge with Rhode Island plates heading west on West Shore Road. The vehicle pulled to the side of the road as the officer passed with his vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens activated.

Mobrice reversed direction and initiated a motor vehicle stop. He made contact with the female operator, who reportedly indicated that “she already knew why I was stopping her.” She is said to have told Mobrice that she went to the Taco Bell for lunch and did not receive the correct food after ordering.

“[The woman] stated at that time, she brought the incorrect food to the counter and asked them politely to make it again,” Mobrice’s report reads. “[The woman] stated the employees then made her food wrong again. [She] then stated that she became livid, and began to swear and yell at them. She stated that the employees from Taco Bell then mocked her … [She] stated that she also swung the bad which contained the tacos at the face of the employee.”

Mobrice then transported the woman to Taco Bell, where an employee is said to have positively identified her as having been involved the incident.

Justina M. Strickland, 27, 206 Pleasant St., Apt. 5, Pawtucket, was arrested on charges of simple assault/battery and disorderly conduct and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, Officer David L. Boardman was conducting a patrol in the area of Elmwood Avenue when he observed a southbound 2003 GMC Denali with tinted windows and no inspection sticker. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was associated with a red Acura.

Boardman initiated a motor vehicle stop at Post and Elmwood avenues and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on an active bench warrant issued from Third Division District Court. Additionally, the operator was found to have a suspended driver’s license and at least two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Vincent Gonzalez, 29, 52 Roger Williams Circle, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and additionally taken into custody on the warrant. He was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and held pending a morning court appearance.

Gonzalez was also cited for operating with a suspended registration, improper use of registration or title and unlawful use of sunscreen material.

Just before 9:45 p.m. on Feb. 23, Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons was conducting a patrol at the intersection of East Avenue and Bald Hill Road when he observed a Toyota Tacoma stop at a red light. The truck’s front end extended into the northbound operating lane of Bald Hill Road.

After the light turned green, Fitzsimmons initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator and sole passenger. The operator was unable to provide a driver’s license but gave his name and date of birth. The passenger was determined to be the registered owner of the vehicle.

A records check then revealed the operator’s license was suspended and that he had at least two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license. He was additionally wanted on two active bench warrants issued from Superior Court.

Uhm.....isn't it correct police procedure to transport the complainant out to the suspect and not the other way around? Warwick doesn't usually make these type of mistakes.

    scot63,

When no charges are filed against an officer, the details are not posted publicly...you'll have to get up from behind your keyboard, wipe off the peanut shells, shower & shave, put on some clean clothes and drive down to WPD Headquarters and request the details.

While your finding out about Boardman's case, you should ask about the details of Officer Paine's investigation, and perhaps tell him and Officer Matt Moretti to their faces what you think of them, also.

You may have to go all the way to a State Police barracks to find out about Ofcr. Paine's investigation, but it'll give you an opportunity to tell our Troopers what you think of them, too.

Never mind- I forgot who I was talking to...that'll never happen...

    davebarry,

It depends on the circumstances and the availability of a unit to cover the vehicle location.

Besides, why pull someone out of work when they didn't (potentially) commit an offense?

One less person being inconvenienced (further) by the behavior of another.

    scot63,

So, although an outside agency was immediately brought in to investigate the fatality and other officers have been investigated and/or officially reprimanded internally, it will never be enough to satisfy you. Since you're in the minority, I believe the solution is that you move somewhere else.

I realize now that no amount of investigation or exoneration will shake your feeble, fevered mind from believing that law enforcement is always at fault, therefore your opinion regarding police behavior is irrelevant. So sorry you had to take down the gallows in your front yard, but I'm sure it's stored in the garage until another unfortunate event involving our fine department triggers you.

As for being "afraid", I'm also sure they'll never see your face in a station unless you're brought in for being irrational and combative whenever law enforcement has to deal with you.

P.S.: Your use of "all caps" and exclamation points just makes you appear to be even more of a loon (It's not helping). Settle down, Beavis, take your meds...and correct your grammar and spelling before hitting the button.
