DRUG POSSESSION

A Cranston man was arrested following a traffic stop around 1:10 a.m., March 19.

Warwick Police Officer Ryan E. Riecke was on patrol when he spotted a vehicle traveling in the vicinity of Veterans Memorial Drive, near the police station, and the driver’s behavior caught his attention.

“As soon as I turned onto the road I observed the vehicle tap its brakes,” Riecke wrote in the arrest report. “This was odd to me because there was no bend in the road or obstruction that might require braking. From my experience in policing this seemed to be a nervous reaction while driving.”

Riecke followed the 2015 Toyota 4Runner.

“The car then began to speed up, as I attempted to catch up to it,” according to Riecke. “The vehicle at this point seemed to be actively trying to avoid the presence of a marked police cruiser.”

Riecke allegedly clocked the vehicle traveling 55 miles per hour in a posted 40 mph zone.

“It was at this time the vehicle then drastically slowed down, even going 10-15 mph under the posted speed limit,” Riecke wrote. “This again seemed like nervous behavior while driving and that this operator was trying very hard to not be pulled over.”

Police initiated a traffic stop on East Avenue prior to the on-ramp for Interstate 95 North.

Police identified the driver as Kevin V. Pamorada, 29, of 35 Carman St., Cranston.

“Kevin appeared extremely anxious and frantic when I started talking to him,” Riecke wrote. “Kevin told me that he had a suspended license and that he had been arrested for it prior.”

The driver allegedly had bloodshot, watery eyes and police say they smelled alcohol. Police asked Pamorada to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Following the tests, police say they found “no signs of impairment.”

However, police determined this would be Pamorada’s third suspended license charge, which is an “arrestable offense.” A tow truck responded to the scene.

Prior to towing, police conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and allegedly found a small baggie containing a white powdery substance (police said the powder was later identified as cocaine and weighed approximately one gram).

Police charged Pamorada with Possession of Schedule I-V (Less than 10 Grams). He also received a citation for Suspended License (third offense) and Speeding (11+ mph over the posted limit).

NO LICENSE

Around 6 p.m., March 19, Warwick Police Officer Noah J. Kane was traveling south on Bald Hill Road when he allegedly spotted a white Volvo S60 swerve into the breakdown lane several times.

Kane initiated a traffic stop near Inskip Way.

Police identified the driver as Angela Michiko Wilkinson, 47, of 91 West Warwick Ave., West Warwick.

“Angela stated that she did not have her RI Driver’s license in her possession and the car was not registered,” Kane wrote in the arrest report.

Police confirmed that this would be Wilkinson’s fourth driving without a license charge, an “arrestable” misdemeanor offense.

Wilkinson was arrested and charged with Driving With Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License (fourth or subsequent offense). She also received citations for Laned Roadway Violations, Operation of Unregistered Vehicle and No Insurance.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 1:10 p.m., Feb. 23, Warwick Police responded to Lakewood Liquors at 774 Warwick Ave., for a shoplifting report from earlier that day.

A store clerk told police that around 12:03 p.m. two women entered the store and both walked in separate directions. The store staff said one woman approached the front of the store and asked for mini bottles from the freezer. When they got the bottles, he asked the woman for ID.

She told him she didn’t have an ID so he refused service.

He told police that “he had reason to believe the females were shoplifting due to prior incidents involving one of the female parties,” according to the incident report. He followed them out of the store and took a photo of their vehicle’s registration plate.

Police tracked the plate to a man who was not on the scene.

Store staff reviewed the video surveillance footage and saw the woman who had walked toward the back of the store remove a 1.75L bottle of Patron Silver form the shelf and allegedly put it inside her purse. Both women left without making a purchase.

The store owner informed police they wanted to press charges. The report was forwarded to Warwick Police Detectives for additional follow-up. Eventually police identified the woman and issued an arrest warrant.

On March 17, Warwick Police responded to the East Providence Police Department for a warrant service. They picked up Ashley M. Benevides, 35, of 47 Wall St., Apt. C, Bristol, the suspect wanted for the Lakewood Liquors shoplifting incident.

She was taken into custody without incident, transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, issued a court summons and eventually released.

GUN POSSESSION

Burrillville man charged with ghost gun possession after Warwick arrest

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Burrillville man has been charged in Kent County Superior Court with possession of a ghost gun and large capacity magazines following his arrest on May 19, 2023, by Warwick Police.

On March 20,  the Office of the Attorney General charged Michael Durvin, 57, of Burrillville, by way of criminal information, with one count of possession of a ghost gun, one count of possession of a large capacity magazine, and one count of disorderly conduct.

“As alleged in the criminal information, on May 19, 2023, Warwick Police responded to a report of a man in a black Toyota Highlander brandishing a firearm at another vehicle during a road rage incident,” according to a press release from Neronha’s office. “Officers located the defendant and stopped him at a Cumberland Farms in West Warwick. Police then conducted a search of the vehicle, during which they found a Polymer 80 9mm handgun, a Glock handgun, and five 15 round magazines.”

Durvin is scheduled for arraignment on April 12 in Kent County Superior Court.
