Stop & Shop partnered with the Warwick Boys and Girls Clubs to provide produce to more than 200 people over the weekend. Cartons of bananas, carrots, apples, oranges and sweet potatoes were delivered to the Norwood Club and then packed into Stop & Shop bags for the pickup held outside the club from 10 to noon. While the club put out the word on social media, websites and the Warwick Beacon, many bags went unclaimed. But the food will be going to those needing it. Westbay Marketplace that is conducting a drive-by distribution of food, and toiletries this Saturday picked up the bags. Paul Scalera, Westbay Community Action director, said the Saturday event beginning at 9 a.m. is open to everyone and is being made possible with the help of the Scituate Lions Club, Plates for People and Iggy’s. Iggy’s is providing 100 ready-to-go meals. Scalera said he hopes to make the hand-out a quarterly event. Saturday’s program is slated to run until noon or as long as supplies are available. The Westbay Marketplace is located at 487 Jefferson Boulevard. (Warwick Beacon photos)
