Willie Nelson headlined the Newport Folk Festival, along with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Natalie MacMaster, while Dave Brubeck, Bobby Short and Cassandra Wilson were featured at the Newport Jazz Festival.

“Pokemon: The Movie 2000” was strictly for kids. Richard Gere and Winona Ryder starred in the romantic “Autumn in New York.”

Trinity Summer Shakespeare presented “Julius Caesar” at Goddard Park.

Cranston’s Angela Williams starred in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at Theatre-by-the-Sea.

Kenny Rogers, Engelbert, Carrot Top, Asleep at the Wheel, and Rhode Island’s own Roomful of Blues performed at the Warwick Musical Theatre.

Bert Silverberg directed A.R. Gurney’s “The Dining Room” for the Cranston Community Theatre at Warwick’s Winman Junior High School.

The Norwood Inn had lobster dinners for $12.95.

Pizza USA on Post Road in Warwick had a pizza buffet that included pizza, chicken fingers, fried chicken, french fries, a salad bar, soda and ice cream for the luncheon price of $4.99 and dinner for $5.99.

IMAX’s third offering was “Whales,” a larger-than-life production. We miss those old nature and travel movies.

40 years ago

Tom Jones filled the Warwick Musical Theatre for one week.

Joe Frazier brought his “Smokin’ Joe Frazier Review” to the Rocky Hill Fair.

Duke Belaiire gave a free concert at Warwick City Park.

Timothy Crowe and Margot Skinner starred in “Deathtrap” at Trinity Summer Theatre.

“California Suite” was at the old New Farm Dinner Theatre in Warwick.

Journey was at the Providence Civic Center.
