Tougher then or now?

To the Editor,

Just like many others, I too, don’t like the restrictions in place for the COVID. I wish people would stop whining and stick it out. Stop following the fools who post on social media about a hoax, or it’s not so bad. Just count the dead. The worst will be over in 6-8 months, according to the experts.

Some say they don’t trust the vaccines. If a majority were to avoid the vaccines, then we will not kill this off. I’m 85 years old, and I have taken all the vaccines without any effects. I also took plenty in 24 years in the service. In the 50s, people lined up gratefully to get a polio vaccine. Once on a sugar cube then, later, a shot from a gun. And, back then, a lot of now eradicated diseases still existed: measles, mumps, TB, and too many to list here. With polio you avoided crowds everywhere.

My question is, were we tougher, and smarter, in our age group than the present generation now? Read about those times and see how fast polio and measles spread. So, toughen up and stop whining. I might add, government safety nets didn’t exist much then.
