Hardly a stampede

By 10 a.m. yesterday, the first day of early voting on the March 2 statewide special election, two voters including Hillary Armstrong seen here had cast their ballot. Registered Warwick voters, who have not applied for a mail ballot, can vote early in the basement conference room of Warwick City Hall. While the turnout is slow compared to the November General Election, Dottie McCarthy, director of the board of canvassers, reported that 8,488 Warwick voters had applied for mail ballots. Statewide, 87,829 voters have applied for a mail ballot. On March 2 the city will operate only two polls from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. They will be at City Hall and the Pilgrim Senior Center. Voters can use either poll. For a summary of what’s on the ballot, turn to page 3. The Beacon will provide a more detailed report on the $400 million in bond issues in next week’s edition.
