Police Log - 11/12/19

DUI

Just before 1 a.m. on Nov. 3, Officer William R. Holz was conducting a traffic patrol in the area of East Avenue when he observed a 2017 Honda Accord drifting between lanes.

Holz followed the vehicle and initiated a stop near the intersection of Toll Gate and Bald Hill Roads. When he made contact with the operator, he reports detecting an “odor of an alcoholic beverage” emanating from the vehicle’s interior. The operator is additionally said to have slurred his speech and exhibited “severely bloodshot and watery” eyes.

The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.

Tyler D. Hagopian, 21, 32 King St., Coventry, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have submitted to a chemical breath test, which reportedly found his blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Hagopian was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for laned roadway violations.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Nov. 4, Officer Matthew T. Caradimos responded to the JCPenney location at the Warwick Mall for a report of a female shoplifting suspect in custody.

At the scene, a loss prevention associate at the store told Caradimos that the suspect had been observed selecting three T-shirts, removing their price tickets and concealing them inside a black jacket she was wearing. The suspect is said to have then exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the shirts, which had a total estimated value of $60.

The loss prevention associate provided Caradimos with security camera footage of the incident.

Privina F. Dean, 19, 54 West Friendship St., Apt. 3, Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held as a bail violator pending a court appearance.

LARCENY

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 31, Officer Ben L. Bratko responded to the Smokey Bones restaurant at 31 Universal Boulevard following a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Bratko that she had arrived at the restaurant and gone inside to eat at approximately 5 p.m. When she returned to her vehicle at approximately 8:10 p.m., she found its rear driver’s-side window shattered. The vehicle’s contents had been gone through, although the only missing items were the vehicle’s registration and insurance information.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

At approximately 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 1, Officer Julio C. Benros responded to the Westgate Condominiums at 752 Quaker Lane following a report of wheels being stolen from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Benros that the wheels from his 2017 Honda Civic had been stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle was left balanced on two rocks with its front end all the way down to the asphalt.

The matter was documented and detectives were notified.

On Nov. 5 at 9:33 a.m., Officer Gregory C. Accinno responded to Lakewood Auto Body at 665 Warwick Ave. following a report of tires and rims being stolen from a vehicle.

At the scene, the shop’s owner told Accinno that he discovered the tires and rims were missing from a 2016 Ford F-150 when he arrived at work at approximately 7:30 a.m. that morning. The vehicle had last been seen at approximately 4:30 p.m. the previous day, and the tires and rims were valued at roughly $2,500.

Accinno observed the vehicle had been placed on cinder blocks. No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.
