LARCENY

Shortly after 4 a.m. on Jan. 8, Officer Jordan P. Guyton responded to the Greenwich Arms Apartments on Greenwich Avenue for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Guyton that his vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, had been left unsecured overnight. When he went to leave for work that morning, he found the vehicle had been entered and his wallet was missing. The wallet is said to have contained multiple bank and credit cards, which he immediately deactivated.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

At approximately 7:38 p.m. on Jan. 9, Officer Sara L. Goes responded to a report of a larceny at 1350 Bald Hill Road. The reporting party was at her vehicle near Party City and The Edge Fitness Club.

At the scene, the reporting party told Goes that she had been working out at the fitness club for roughly an hour. When she returned to her vehicle just after 7:30 p.m., she found the passenger window of her vehicle – a 2014 Ford Fusion – smashed in. A purse, which contained a driver’s license, bank and credit cards and other items, was missing.

The reporting party said she then discovered one of the credit cards had been used for multiple fraudulent purchases, including at Burger King, a 7-Eleven, a Gulf gas station and Walmart.

Goes then responded to the Burger King, located at 1010 Bald Hill Road, in an unsuccessful attempt to obtain security camera footage. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 2:17 on Oct. 24, 2019, Officer Ryan E. Shibley responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

Dispatch advised that the male suspect had left the scene in a silver station wagon bearing Massachusetts registration. Another officer had spotted the vehicle near the Showcase Cinema but had been unable to stop it and did not initiate a pursuit due to safety concerns.

Shibley arrived at Macy’s and met with an asset protection associate, who advised the suspect had been observed selecting nearly a dozen clothing items before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. The suspect is said to have then picked up a woman on the West Natick Road side of the mall before leaving the area.

The matter was forwarded to detectives and a warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest on a charge of shoplifting.

Shortly after noon on Jan. 14 of this year, Officer Kyle J. Fitzsimmons responded to Superior Court in Providence to take custody of Jonathan A. Beharry, 34, 840 Cranston St., Apt. 3, Cranston, on the warrant. Beharry was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and held pending an appearance in Third Division District Court.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2019, Officer Cody Wild responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch subsequently advised that the suspect had left the area in a silver or gold Toyota bearing Rhode Island registration.

At the scene, a loss prevention officer at the store told Wild that the female suspect had been observed selecting 23 clothing items before entering a fitting room. When she left the fitting room, the woman is said to have been carrying roughly 15 items – while a reusable bag she was carrying had become “noticeably larger.”

The suspect is said to have left the 15 items on a counter before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items. She was met by loss prevention personnel but resisted them and was able to enter a vehicle and leave the scene.

The loss prevention officer was able to gain possession of the suspect’s reusable bag, which contained a purse with a driver’s license. The bag was found to be what is called a “booster bag” – one that uses electromagnetic shielding to defeat anti-theft devices.

The total value of the recovered items was nearly $300, according to Macy’s. A warrant was subsequently issued for the suspect’s arrest on a charge of shoplifting.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 of this year, Officer Jordan P. Guyton responded to U.S. District Court to take custody of Anita Y. Jackson, 60, 395 Blackstone St., Providence, on the warrant. She was additionally charged with shoplifting as a habitual offender and shoplifting with use of implements of concealment. She was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and held pending an appearance in Third Division District Court.

Goes was unable to locate the suspect vehicle and responded to Burlington, where a loss prevention associate said the suspect had been selecting a jacket valued at nearly $30 and destroying its security tag. He was then confronted by store personnel, at which point he exited the store without making any attempt to pay.

Police obtained security camera footage and documented the matter, which was forwarded to detectives.
