STOLEN VEHICLE

At approximately 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 15, Officer Britton E. Kelly responded to a Phillips Avenue home for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The reporting party told Kelly that a silver 2006 Chevy 1500 pickup truck kept in his driveway had gone missing. The vehicle – which the reporting party said had sat unused for some time and was in need of many repairs – was left with the keys in the ignition and its doors unlocked. The vehicle was fully paid off and was uninsured, and it had last been seen at approximately 5 p.m. on Jan. 14.

Kelly then noticed a security camera at a nearby home and was granted access by the property owner. A review of the footage showed the vehicle backing out of the reporting party’s driveway and heading west on Phillips Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. on Jan. 15, although the distance of the camera from the scene made it impossible to identify a suspect.

The reporting party filled out a statement and the vehicle was designated as stolen. A few hours later, Providence Police located the vehicle in their city and contacted Warwick Police. The vehicle had been found with its keys inside, and it was in the possession of Sterry Street Towing.

The matter was forwarded to detectives.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. on Jan. 21, Officer Paris L. Norwood responded to a Commonwealth Avenue address for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The reporting party told Norwood that the vehicle – a green 1996 Toyota Corolla owned by his fiancée – has been parked at approximately 9:15 a.m. that day and was noticed missing just before 1:30 p.m. The vehicle had been left unlocked but the keys were not left inside.

No witnesses or security camera footage were immediately available. The vehicle was designated as stolen and other law enforcement agencies were notified.

LARCENY

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, Officer Gian A. Micheletti responded to the Auto Zone at 1020 Bald Hill Road for a report of a stolen wallet.

At the scene, the reporting party told Micheletti that his wallet had fallen out of his pocket in the store’s parking lot when he arrived. The wallet was picked up in the store’s parking lot and brought inside, where another customer is said to have falsely claimed it.

The wallet is said to have contained a driver’s license, Social Security card, bank and credit cards, a BJ’s membership card and assorted photographs.

The matter was documented.

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 22, Officer Charles A. Austin Jr. responded to Walmart at 840 Post Road for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch advised that a female suspect was in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, a loss prevention associate told Austin that the suspect had been observed removing price tags from items and placing them on other items within the store. The suspect then proceeded to a self-checkout line, where she scanned the false price tags – paying $16.45 for items with an actual value of more than $244. As the suspect attempted to exit the store, she was met by loss prevention personnel.

Marielise Ortiz Colon, 29, 61 Dartmouth Ave., Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was held as a probation violator pending an appearance in Third Division District Court.

VANDALISM

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Jan. 20, Officer Michael C. Bailey responded to a Horseneck Road home for a report of malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Bailey that he heard a noise outside just after 8:30 p.m. When he looked out the window, he saw a person wearing a hoodie in his driveway. He opened the window and yelled at the person, at which point the person entered the passenger side of a dark, four-door vehicle that took off toward West Shore Road.

The reporting party then went outside and observed that the back window of his work van, a white 2011 Chevrolet, had been broken.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Jan. 16, Officer Matthew T. Caradimos was conducting traffic enforcement on Centerville Road when he observed a black four-door sedan without a front license plate traveling east on the road.

Caradimos followed the vehicle and initiated a stop in a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. He made contact with the female operator, who indicated she did not believe her driver’s license was active. A records check revealed the operator’s license was suspended and that she had two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Anna Marie Campos, 25, 45 Mitchell St., Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.
