SHOPLIFTING

On the morning of Jan. 12, Detective Adam Arico met with a loss prevention associate from Lowe’s regarding multiple shoplifting incidents at the store’s 810 Quaker Lane and 555 Greenwich Ave. locations.

The associate told Arico that two men had taken rolls of Romex electrical wire from the locations on several occasions in December 2019. On Dec. 20, the suspects were said to have taken two rolls of wire with a combined value of $403 from the Quaker Lane store without making any attempt to pay. Then, on Dec. 23, the same men were said to have taken five rolls of wire with a combined value of nearly $415 from the same store without making any attempt to pay.

The associate told Arico the same men were suspects in similar incidents at other Lowe’s locations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Through a records check of a vehicle involved in a theft from the Greenwich Avenue store – which had also been involved in a theft from the Cranston Lowe’s store – one of the suspects was identified. Arico then sought the public’s assistance in identifying the second suspect through a Facebook post, which proved successful. Warrants were subsequently issued for the arrest of the suspects.
