STOLEN VEHICLE

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on May 4, Officer David Boardman was conducting a routine patrol heading south on Post Road when he observed a vehicle in front of him cut across two lanes of traffic, nearly causing an accident.

Boardman reports he observed the vehicle – described as a 2005 Toyota Camry – commit “several roadway violations” as it continued down Post Road. Additionally, the operator did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt.

A records check revealed the vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Pawtucket, and Boardman initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of the Best Western Airport Inn. Additional officers responded to provide backup.

The vehicle’s operator was detained, and he reportedly told Boardman he “bought the car today for $200 million dollars and had a chip put in it to make it go faster.” An additional records check found the man’s license was suspended.

Michael Wise, 38, 60 Kinne St., Apt. 2, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was additionally cited for driving with a suspended license, second offense.

FRAUD

At approximately 4:46 p.m. on May 1, Officer Kevin Warren spoke with a caller regarding a fraud complaint.

The reporting party told Warren that in late April, she received a bill from Home Depot for an $86.43 balance on a store credit card. The woman, who had never opened a credit card with the store, then contacted Home Depot. She was told a credit card had been opened using her name and Social Security number on March 27 at the chain’s Universal Boulevard location in Warwick.

A copy of the bill was later provided to police. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

LARCENY

At approximately 6:43 p.m. on May 3, Officer Charles Austin Jr. responded to the Fairfax Village Apartments on Post Road for a report of a larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Austin that a kitchen chair left on the patio of his apartment had been stolen that day. The theft was believed to have occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The chair was not found during a check of the nearby area. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives. ***

Just before 10 p.m. on May 3, Officer Charles Austin Jr. responded to a Bellevue Avenue residence for a report of a larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Austin her husband had gone to his vehicle to get money for a take-out order when he discovered the glove box and center console had been gone through, with their contents strewn throughout the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle had been left unlocked.

No items were reported missing from the vehicle, and it was not damaged. The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.
