DUI

At approximately 5:44 p.m. on Aug. 1, Officer William Holz responded to the area of Main Avenue and Warwick Industrial Drive for a report of a motor vehicle offense in progress. Dispatch advised that a 2008 Toyota Highlander was operating erratically, and the reporting party had followed the vehicle onto Post Road.

Holz observed the vehicle in the area of T.F. Green Airport, heading north toward the Airport Connector. “The vehicle was traveling between both northbound lanes,” the officer reports, “straddling the broken white diving line.”

Holz followed the vehicle and observed it stop at one point halfway into the intersection while turning left onto the Airport Connector. The vehicle continued toward the Interstate 95 merge, and the officer reports it “did not stay within its travel lane, crossing over the white fog line with its two right wheels several times.”

Holz initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the male operator and the vehicle’s sole passenger, also male. The operator, according to the officer, exhibited “severely bloodshot eyes” and slurred his speech. He also detected a “strong odor” of alcohol on the man’s breath.

The operator is said to have initially agreed to undergo field sobriety testing but subsequently asked that it be discontinued.

Alexander W. Greenlee, 52, 377 Warren Ave., East Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have agreed to a chemical breath test, which reportedly found his blood alcohol content to be significantly above the legal limit.

Greenlee was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for obedience to traffic control devices and laned roadway violations.

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 11:41 a.m. on Aug. 9, officers Derek Mourato and Nicholas DeMarco responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch then advised that another officer at the scene had the suspect in custody.

A statement provided by a Walmart employee indicated the male suspect had been seen exiting the store through its lawn and garden with a cart full of unpaid merchandise. The man is said to have initially attempted to flee when confronted by a store employee. At that point, the other officer at the scene took the man into custody.

Jay Northup, 38, 12 John H. Chafee Boulevard, Apt. 41, Newport, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons was conducting a routine patrol northbound on Post Road near Elmwood Avenue when he observed an older model GMC Sierra with multiple registration stickers on its read license plate. A check of the registration found it was associated with an Infiniti and that the plate was reported stolen out of Cranston.

Fitzsimmons initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator, who was able to provide a title for the vehicle. Subsequent checks by the officer found that the plates had not in fact been stolen. A records check did find, however, that the operator had a suspended license and at least two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Miguel A. Cosme Gonzalez, 42, 114 Harold St., Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was additionally cited for improper use of registration and operating a motor vehicle with canceled registration.

ATTEMPTED LARCENY

At approximately 5:12 p.m. on Aug. 11, Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons responded to a Chestnut Street home for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting parties – a mother and daughter – told Fitzsimmons the mother’s 2018 Hyundai Elantra had been parked outside the home at approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 10. At approximately 7 a.m. the next morning, the mother found the vehicle’s driver door and center console were open. A “small box” had been moved inside the vehicle, but the reporting parties said nothing had been taken.

Later that day, the daughter notified her mother that her vehicle – a 2018 Toyota Highlander – had also possibly been tampered with. The daughter had difficulty placing her key in the ignition and believed something may have been stuck inside. Nothing was missing from the Highlander, however.

No security camera footage was immediately available, although a neighbor told Fitzsimmons he would contact police if a review of footage from his camera revealed any evidence.

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

VANDALISM

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 13, Officer Bruce Law responded to a Wood Street home for a report of malicious damage.

At the scene, the reporting party told Law that something between 4:30 p.m. the previous day and 6 a.m. that morning, someone had thrown a bottle at his vehicle, leaving a dent and scratches on the rear tailgate.

Photographs of the damage were taken and the matter was documented.

WARRANTS

At approximately 5:21 p.m. on Aug. 5, Officer Timothy Lipka was stopped in the breakdown lane of Interstate 95 north searching for a shoplifting suspect when he observed a vehicle – described as a 2011 Ford Explorer – pass by at a high rate of speed without slowing down or moving over.

Lipka pursued the vehicle, initiated a stop and made contact with its operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on an active arrest warrant issued from Coventry Police.

Jonathan William Perry, 37, 26 Park Lane, Apt. Top, Coventry, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. Coventry Police later responded to Warwick headquarters to take custody of Perry. ** Just after 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 11, Officer Derek Mourato was traveling south on Post Road when he observed a vehicle swerve in its lane. The operator of the vehicle then threw a cigarette out the window.

Mourato initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Post and Airport roads and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to be wanted on a bench warrant issued from Superior Court.

Eric C. Greenwood, 41, 42 Carter St., Apt. 1, Providence, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later transported to Superior Court and transferred into the custody of sheriffs.
