SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 18, Officer Tyler Stone responded to the JCPenney store at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, a loss prevention officer at the store told Stone that employees had observed two men and one woman in the men’s department at approximately 1:15 p.m. that day. One of the men was observed concealing two pairs of pants, a shirt and a jacket in a large black duffle bag. The man then met up with the other man and woman, at which point three packs of underwear were concealed in the bag. The other man was also seen putting on a sweatshirt and concealing it under another sweatshirt he had worn into the store.

At that point, all three of the subjects exited the store without making any attempt to pay. They were met by loss prevention personnel and escorted back inside the store without incident. The sweatshirt, valued at $55, and the other items concealed in the bag, valued at a combined $379, were recovered. The woman was released from the scene.

Anthony B. Martins, 20, 300 Lambert Lind Highway, Apt. B329, Warwick, and Trevor L. Hedger, 27, 27 Greeley St., Apt. 3, Providence, were each arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. Martins was also found to be wanted on an active bench warrant issued from Third Division District Court. Both men were held as bail violators.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 20, Officer Jessica Masso responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch subsequently advised that a male suspect was in the custody of loss prevention personnel.

At the scene, a loss prevention associate told Masso that store personnel had observed the male suspect enter the store with a large, empty paper bag at approximately 4:30 p.m. that day. The man was observed selecting multiple packages of men’s underwear in T-shirts and concealing them in the bag before heading to another department, where he was observed concealing a collared shirt in the bag.

At that point, he exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items in the bag. He was then met by loss prevention personnel and escorted back inside the store. The items, with a combined value of $251, were recovered.

Marcos D. Filpo Madera, 29, 65 Ralph St., Apt. 2, Providence, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 18, Officer David Boardman was conducting a routine patrol in a marked cruiser traveling north on Jefferson Boulevard when he observed a 2007 Toyota Avalon with heavily tinted windows and a large amount of snow covering its rear windshield.

Boardman initiated a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 95 north near exit 16 and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license and at least two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Elia Rodriguez, 36, 105 Wadsworth St., Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

WARRANTS

Just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 22, Officer Aaron Steere was conducting a directed patrol at the Radisson Hotel on Post Road when he observed a 2010 Audi without a front registration plate parked outside the hotel.

“The vehicle was heavily tinted with after market tint,” Steere reports, “and it had front end damage as well.”

A records check revealed the vehicle’s registered owner was wanted on an active bench warrant issued from Third Division District Court. The owner was then found to be staying at the hotel.

Steere and another officer responded to the room in question and took Desmond Brown, 34, 333 Academy Ave., Apt. 2, Providence, into custody on the warrant. He was taken to Warwick Police headquarters for processing before being transported to Third Division District Court.
