FROM STAFF REPORTS The Warwick girls hockey co-op unexpectedly had its season shut down on Tuesday afternoon just prior to its scheduled playoff game against Burrillville/Ponaganset/Bay View.

First reported by the Providence Journal, during the team’s previous game, which happened to be against B/P/BV the night before, there was an emergency in the stands at the Levy Arena which forced the teams to momentarily head to their locker rooms. One of the Warwick players later tested positive, and due to it being classified as a close contact, the team’s season came to a close.

Warwick athletic director Ken Rix said in a statement, “Based on recent developments, the Warwick Girls Co-op ice hockey team will not participate in the state playoffs this year. The decision is based on the Department of Health investigation which determined the team should quarantine due to a COVID-positive exposure.”

The Barrington boys hockey team also had to shut its season down on Tuesday as it also experienced a close contact situation.
