A 61-year-old Warwick man is facing animal cruelty charges after the discovery of several animals living in “deplorable conditions” at a farm he owns in Coventry, according to a joint statement from Coventry Police and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

David Pancarowicz is said to have turned himself in to Coventry Police on Jan. 14. He is charged with 10 counts of cruelty to animals and 10 counts of mistreatment of animals, and he is due to be arraigned in Third Division District Court “within the upcoming months.”

According to the statement, Coventry Police officers, animal control officers, representatives of the RISCPA and members of the state veterinarian’s office responded to the farm at Twin Brook Lane in Coventry to execute a search warrant on Jan. 13.

Multiple animals were found without “access to adequate food or water,” the statement reads, “and some of the animals were found severely under weight.”

Five cows, four goats, a sheep, a donkey and a piglet were seized from the property, according to the statement. Two of the five cows were calves.

“The Coventry Police Department would like to thank the RISPCA and the RI State Veterinarian’s Office for their assistance in this case,” the statement reads. “All of the animals that were seized from the property are currently being held in foster care until the case is resolved.”

SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 4:41 p.m. on Jan. 6, Officer Michael Maccarone responded to the Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch advised that a suspect had been seen leaving the scene in a blue pickup truck.

Other officers located the suspect vehicle – described as a 2003 Dodge Dakota – on Greenwich Avenue , at which point they initiated a stop and detained the male operator.

Maccarone responded to the Macy’s store and spoke with a loss prevention employee, who said the suspect had been observed carrying merchandise through the store before exiting without making any attempt to pay for the items.

The other officers are said to have found the stolen items within the suspect’s vehicle. The items included multiple sportswear sets and a jacket, with a combined value of $617. Records also showed the operator was wanted on an active bench warrant issued from Second Division District Court and an unspecified arrest warrant, according to police.

Kyle Medeiros, 36, Westport, Massachusetts, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.

Just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 9, Officer Michael Maccarone responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of a female shoplifting suspect in the custody of loss prevention.

At the scene, a loss prevention employee told police the suspect had been observed carrying multiple clothing items through the store before exiting without making any attempt to pay. At that point, the suspect was met by store employees and escorted back inside. Seven items with a combined value of roughly $435 were recovered.

Linda Cotter, 65, 60 Lake View Drive, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LARCENY

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 7, Officer Ryan Costa was advised of a larceny complaint from a resident of Jefferson Street. Dispatch advised the reporting party wished to be contacted by phone.

Costa made contact with the reporting party, who indicated that several Amazon packages had been taken from her front porch. She said Amazon had advised her to obtain a police report for the most recent missing package, a litterbox valued at nearly $138 that had been reported as delivered between 3 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 6. The reporting party said the delivery driver had sent a photo of the package on her front steps, but it was not there when she returned home that day.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

Just before 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 8, Officer Britton Kelly responded to a Fourth Avenue home for a report of an attempted larceny from a vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Kelly that at some point overnight, a security camera facing his driveway had recorded a man attempting to break into his wife’s vehicle. The vehicle was locked, and the man – who wore dark clothing and a mask – was unsuccessful.

The video was forwarded to detectives, and the matter was documented. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, Officer David Boardman responded to an electronically submitted larceny complaint.

The reporting party advised that an item ordered from Amazon – a currency counter valued at $767 – has been listed as delivered to her Guilford Drive home on Jan. 4. The package was not there when the reporting party checked. A follow-up with Amazon found the item had been delivered, and it was believed it had been stolen.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, Officer Daniel O’Connell responded to Fagnant Carpet at 1670 Warwick Ave. for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told O’Connell that his work vehicle – a 2006 Ford van – had been parked in front of the business at approximately 5 p.m. on Jan. 8. When he returned on the morning of Jan. 12, he discovered the vehicle’s catalytic converter had been stolen.

No suspects were immediately identified. The matter was documented.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, Officer Nathan Sandin responded to the parking lot near the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant at the Warwick Mall for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Sandin she had arrived at the mall to shop at approximately 6:15 that evening. When she returned to her vehicle roughly an hour later, she discovered its center console had been “rummaged through” and approximately $85 in rolled coins and bills were missing.

The vehicle had been left unlocked, according to the reporting party. There was no visible damage to the vehicle.

Security camera footage was obtained from the mall, although Sandin reports it did not provide “any clear depiction of the individual responsible for the larceny.”
