DUI

Just after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, Officer Walter Larson responded to the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Main Avenue for a report of an impaired driver. The reporting party told dispatch that a vehicle “had almost struck him and was all over the road,” and that it struck another vehicle at Midland Manor before continuing on Main Avenue.

Larson found the vehicle near the intersection of Main and Greenwich avenues and observed it travel through a red light, switch lanes without signaling, swerve between lanes and straddled lane lines. The vehicle then entered I-95 south, where the officer was able to initiate a stop at exit 12A.

Larson reports the operator “had a strong odor of alcohol” on her breath, and that her eyes were bloodshot, her speech was slurred and her movements were “lethargic.”

“On the floor of the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle there were three empty White Claw cans,” Larson’s report reads.

According to Larson, the operator – who had difficulty maintaining her balance after exiting the vehicle – acknowledged consuming alcohol that evening. She is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Helen M. Faille, 34, 79 Service Road, West Warwick, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She is said to have consented to a chemical breath test, which reportedly found her blood alcohol level to be significantly above the legal limit.

Faille was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for leaving the scene of an accident involving an unattended vehicle, turn signal required, driving without insurance, and laned roadway violations. ***

Just after 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, Officer Nathaniel Gray responded to reports of an erratic operator heading east on Main Avenue in the area of the Greenwood Bridge. The vehicle was described as a black Saab.

“Dispatch advised the caller reported the vehicle was ‘all over the road running red lights,’” Gray reports, while other officers indicated the vehicle had been observed committing “multiple laned roadway violations.”

Other officers were able to stop the vehicle at Inman and Main avenues. Gray arrived at that location and made contact with the operator, who is said to have slurred her speech and acknowledged consuming alcohol that night.

The operator is said to have had difficulty maintaining her balance when she exited the vehicle. She is also said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.

Tracey M. Damico, 57, 100 Don Ave., Rumford, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.

Damico was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

VANDALISM

Just after 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, Detective Brian Murray responded to a West Shore Road home for a report of a vehicle’s windshield being smashed overnight.

At the scene, the reporting party told Murray she had last seen the vehicle undamaged when she parked it outside the home at approximately 11:35 the previous night. She discovered the damage when she went out to the vehicle that morning.

“There was a large rock on the ground in front of her vehicle that looked to have been used to cause the damage,” according to the detective’s report.

The reporting party had no potential suspects in mind and said she had neither heard nor seen the damage being done to the vehicle. No security camera footage was available. The matter was documented.

LARCENY

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 15, Officer Jordan Guyton responded to the Olive Garden restaurant on Universal Boulevard regarding a larceny report.

The reporting party told Guyton her boyfriend had called her from a landline phone after his cell phone was stolen while he was in the restroom at the Warwick Mall’s Target store earlier that day. The reporting party said she attempted to track the phone, locating it near Centerville Road and I-95 north before it was shown as turned off.

The reporting party’s boyfriend then arrived at the restaurant. He told Guyton he had changed his son’s diaper in the family bathroom at Target just before noon that day. He realized his cell phone – an iPhone valued at between $350 and $500 – was missing about 10 minutes later, but when he returned to the restroom, the phone was gone. The reporting party also provided a description of a man who had entered the bathroom after him.

Later on Jan. 15, Guyton responded to the Target store for additional investigation. A review of security camera footage showed a man matching the description provided by the victim, but the footage “was unable to depict whether the male had a device in his hand or in his pocket” and “was also unable to depict any identifying features … as it was blurry and the male was wearing a mask.”

The matter was documented and forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 14, Officer Jordan Guyton responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch then advised that a suspect was in the custody of mall security.

At the scene, an asset protection detective from Macy’s told Guyton that the suspect had been observed concealing eight items in her purse before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. She was then met by employees and escorted back inside the store, where all of the items – including shirts, makeup and jewelry, with a combined value of roughly $191 – were recovered.

Madison Kelley, 23, 16 Grove St., West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. ***

Shortly before 2:50 p.m. on Jan. 22, Officer Evan Brown responded to the JCPenney store at the Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, Brown and other officers met with asset protection personnel, who had a female suspect in custody. An employee told police the suspect had been observed concealing two makeup items with a combined value of $68 in her pocketbook. The suspect is said to have then purchased a necklace – but not paid for the makeup items – before exiting the store. At that point, she was met by employees and escorted back inside.

Tiffany A. Espinal, 28, 50 West Warwick Ave., Apt. 2, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

At approximately 9 a.m. on Jan. 17, Officer Jacob Elderkin was conducting a routine patrol on Metro Center Boulevard when he observed a 2006 Saab with Massachusetts registration. He reports that a records check found the registration did not match the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle’s front windshield was smashed.

Elderkin initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator and two passengers. The operator was found through a records check to have a suspended license and two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Ryan Grant Callahan, 35, 46 Church St., West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was additionally cited for driving an unregistered vehicle. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. ***

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Jan. 18, Officer Jacob Elderkin was conducting a fixed traffic post on Warwick Avenue near the Cranston line when he observed a southbound vehicle with Connecticut registration traveling above the speed limit. The officer clocked the vehicle at 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Elderkin pursuing the vehicle, which he said “slow rolled for approximately a half mile” despite his cruiser’s lights being activated. The vehicle finally came to a stop near Dryden Boulevard.

The officer then made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license and two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Xiomara F. Alvarez, 49, 315 Cowesett Ave., Apt. 408, West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. She was additionally cited for speeding and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. ***

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Jan. 21, Officer David Boardman was conducting a stationary speed enforcement detail on Jefferson Boulevard when he observed a southbound vehicle – described as a 2015 Toyota Camry – traveling above the speed limit.

Boardman initiated a motor vehicle stop near Lincoln Avenue and made contact with the operator, who was found through a records check to have a suspended license and at least two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Sterling E. Campbell Hayes, 27, 46 Lancashire St., Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. He was additionally cited for speeding.

WARRANTS

Just after 2 p.m. on Jan. 16, Officer Tyler Luiz was conducting a patrol in a marked cruiser when he observed a 2008 Ford Edge traveling east on West Shore Road. He reports that a check of the vehicle’s registration revealed its owner was wanted on an active bench warrant.

Luiz initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the vehicle’s operator, who was confirmed to be its registered owner.

Meredith Bautista, 46, 173 Locust Glen Drive, Cranston, was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions.
