SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 30, Officer Thomas Greene responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident. Dispatch subsequently advised that two women – both accompanied by children – were in the custody of loss prevention.

At the scene, an asset protection associate at the store told Greene the two women had been observed concealing multiple items in their bags before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. At that point, they were met by store employees and escorted back inside.

The merchandise, which was all recovered, included greeting cards, sleepwear, fragrances and other items. According to Macy’s, one of the women is said to have been in possession of roughly $324 worth of merchandise, while the items found in the other woman’s possession had a combined value of roughly $1,330.

A friend of the women responded to the store to take custody of the children, according to Greene’s report.

Fatima Altagracia Castillo, 40, 224 Messer St., Providence, and Blasina Garcia Medina, 29, 179 Gallup St., Apt. 1, Providence, were both arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. Both were later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court. ***

Just before noon on Dec. 6, Officer Bruce Law responded to the Macy’s store at the Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch subsequently advised that a male suspect – who was said to have taken a black jacket valued at $249 – had fled the store on foot and was heading north on Greenwich Avenue.

Officer David Boardman then located and detained a man matching the suspect’s description on Lambert Lind Highway. The man was found in possession of a black jacket with security tags still attached. Law then transported the suspect back to Macy’s, where a store employee identified him as the suspect.

Sven Asmus, 37, 1143 Main Ave., Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting, second offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.

LARCENY

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, Officer Tammy Mello responded to Ulta Beauty at 1350 Bald Hill Road for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle.

At the scene, the reporting party told Mello she had been working a shift at Ulta that day. When she returned to her vehicle at approximately 1:30 p.m., she discovered the driver-side window had been smashed out. A purse – which contained debit and credit cards, a driver’s license, a Social Security card, insurance cards and $15 in cash – was missing.

Mello then spoke with another employee at the store whose vehicle had also been broken into. The driver-side window of that vehicle had also been smashed, while a wallet containing a health insurance card was missing. A review of security camera footage showed what appeared to be a white Honda Accord that was involved in the incident.

Both matters were documented.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Nov. 4, Officer Kevin Warren responded to the Lowe’s store at 510 Quaker Lane for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Warren he was returning to his vehicle after shopping at Lowe’s at approximately 3:09 p.m. that afternoon when he realized he had left an item at the checkout counter. He left his shopping cart in the parking lot and returned inside the store to retrieve the item. When he returned, the items he had purchased were missing from the cart.

According to the reporting party, a white Ford work van had parked next to the cart while he was inside the store. The reporting party is said to have observed his items – wire shelving valued at $109 and wall hooks valued at $10.96 – inside the van taken a photograph, which he showed Warren.

The reporting party told Warren he returned inside the store to report the incident and ask for access to security camera footage, but was told he would need to contact police. He then went back to the parking lot, where he saw a man enter the white van and drive off.

Warren viewed security camera footage at the store and observed the suspect removing items from the reporting party’s cart and placing them in his van. Based on the van’s registration and a check of driver’s license records, the officer was able to identify the suspect. A warrant was then sought for the man’s arrest on a charge of larceny.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Dec. 8, Officer Thomas Greene met with Rhode Island State Police troopers at Warwick Police headquarters to take custody of Jarrad W. Marshall, 45, 115 Wilson St., Apt. 2, Providence, on the warrant.
